Lower School to Stage Rumplestiltskin the Week of February 14th! Audition and Production Information Here!
This year marks the third partnership between Mount Vernon Arts and the Missoula Children’s Theater, whose mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts. MCT is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre that has been touring extensively for nearly 50 years from Montana to Japan and will visit nearly 1,100 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors.
Over the week of February 14th through 18th, the Lower Campus will collaborate with the MCT to give our youngest artists the opportunity to take the stage for a fully immersive experience of the performance process. Two MCT tour teaching artists will hold auditions and rehearsals and help our students bring an original adaptation of the classic children’s story Rumplestiltskin to life on our Lower School Fellowship Hall Stage. Also included in the MCT residency week are three enrichment workshops.
MCT will provide our students with the opportunity to use the dancing, singing and acting skills that they garner from their weekly performing arts classes and apply them to the full creative process of live performance including props, costumes, and lights. This unique engagement fosters the Mount Vernon community spirit by offering the students a chance to collaborate with students in other grades, to expand their social skills and tools of communication, to take creative risks and ultimately stand before their community and shine!
MCT week is very fun, full and fast-paced, and it’s a student experience that has been much beloved by Mustangs participating in prior years. Audiences are always thrilled by the quality and breadth of the production at the end of the week. The MCT program and casting is specifically designed for the capabilities of Lower School students.
